Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Engine History

Since the first F-Head motors, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company has focused on innovating year after year to create the best motorcycle engines on the road. The early days of the company saw continual evolution, until the mid thirties when the Knucklehead engine came onto the scene. The Knucklehead laid the groundwork for Harley-Davidson’s air cooled engine design to this day, and helped to spur the invention of the Shovelhead engine that powered the first Electra-Glide® touring motorcycles in the 1960’s. The next big innovation for touring bikes came in 1999 when Harley-Davidson unveiled the Twin Cam engine that delivered more power than ever before. Now it’s time for the next generation of touring motor! With a legacy of excellence that stretches back to 1903, it’s no wonder that the Milwaukee-Eight engine from Harley-Davidson is the best yet.

Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Power

Harley-Davidson always strives to make their next engine more powerful than the last, and they’ve succeeded with the Milwaukee-Eight. Not only does this engine churn out 10% more torque than the Twin Cam motor, but it does so without a significant increase in engine weight, giving the Milwaukee-Eight a significantly improved power to weight ratio. Even at the same weight, the stock Milwaukee-Eight engine is 107 cubic inches, compared to 103 cubic inches on a Twin Cam model. If the standard engine isn’t big enough you can get your hands on a 114 cu in. Milwaukee-Eight on the CVO touring bikes. Still looking for more? Come in and speak with our service department and we can set you up with a Screamin’ Eagle Stage III upgrade kit for your Milwaukee-Eight, a conversion that boosts the engine up to a massive 117 cu. in. and allows this motor to deliver stomach dropping white knuckle power. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Performance

The performance of the Milwaukee-Eight matches this engine’s power. The Milwaukee-Eight utilizes an eight valve design to create better fuel economy and lower emissions than previous touring engines. The precision cooling system on the Milwaukee-Eight removes heat directly from the hottest parts of the motor, leading to a significant improvement in comfort when you get stuck in traffic on a warm day. The Milwaukee-Eight also runs smoother than previous engines, thanks to being rubber mounted and equipped with a counterbalancer that ensures a smooth ride all day long.

Harley-Davidson’s new Milwaukee-Eight is the best touring engine on the road!
